An interesting study a few years ago showed that the volume level of the music impacted the thinking processes of the listener. The louder the music, the fewer effective-thinking processes were produced by the brain. That is why loud music can make it difficult to communicate while in the sound. Although the listeners may hear what is said, the brain is not able to process or translate the language.

It is also suggested that one sign of a troubled teen is the sudden increase in listening to loud music due to its impact on retarding the brain's thought processes which helps in the troubled teen's escape.
